The sessions of the Nomenclature Section will be held at the University of Melbourne, from
18-22 July 2011, the week preceding the main sessions of the IBC. The precise lecture theatre will
be advised closer to the time.
The Nomenclature Section of the IBC considers proposals for changes to the International Code of Botanical Nomenclature (http://ibot.sav.sk/icbn/main.htm), as specified in the ICBN Division III. Provisions for the Governance of the Code.
Proposals to amend the Code are published in Taxon (see Taxon 56: 270–271. 2007) – http://www.botanik.univie.ac.at/iapt/downloads/guidelines_amend_code.pdf. To guarantee publication, proposals must be submitted by 31 March 2010 and it is expected that a Synopsis of proposals will be published in the February 2011 issue (Taxon 60 part 1). The ballots for a preliminary guiding mail vote will be distributed to those entitled to vote, principally the members of IAPT, at that time.
All registered members of the IBC are entitled to enrol as voting members of the Nomenclature Section. In addition, institutes will have an assigned number of votes, determined as set out in ICBN Div. III.4(b)(2). Any institute desiring to vote in the Nomenclature Section and not listed in Taxon 58 (3/4) as having been allocated a vote at the Nomenclature Section in Vienna should notify the Bureau of Nomenclature of the IBC (see below) of their wish to be allocated one or more votes and provide relevant information regarding the level of taxonomic activity in their institute or at http://www.botanik.univie.ac.at/iapt/s_institutional_votes.php
The Bureau of Nomenclature of the International Botanical Congress organises the Sessions. Officers of the Bureau of Nomenclature for the XVIII IBC are as follows:
- President: Sandra Knapp (Natural History Museum, London, UK)
- Rapporteur-général: John McNeill (Royal Botanic Garden, Edinburgh, UK)
- Vice-Rapporteur: Nicholas J. Turland (Missouri Botanical Garden, St Louis, USA)
- Recorder: Brendan Lepschi (Australian National Herbarium, Centre for Plant Biodiversity Research, Canberra, Australia)
